As of the beginning of 1998 I (Fred H. Olson) will no longer be using the email address at the U of MN that I've used for about 4 years (OLD: fholson [at] tc.umn.edu or fholson [at] maroontc.umn.edu). My new primary address (which has been my secondary address for 1.5 years) will be: NEW address: fholson [at] cohousing.org POST ACCOUNT CLOSURE FORWARD REFERENCING I hope to have the old address reference the new address in some way after I stop using it to avoid bounced mail. (The phone company and the post office do something comparable.) Anyone interested in lobbying the U of MN (or other access providers) for this policy, please contact me. Here's an interesting anecdote about the cohousing.org domain in an email address... Last Friday I was chatting with the program manager at the MN Historical Society in the milling district here about an issue of mutual concern. He asked for my address in case the issue heats up in the future. In filling out his address card I put my email address down as I am inclined to do even when there is no blank for it... I put down my new primary address fholson [at] cohousing.org. When he looked over the card he said something like 'oh you're interested in cohousing also' which gave me an opening to talk about cohousing which was unlikely to have come up otherwise. It is possible to get a cohousing.org 'vanity' address without getting a new account. It theoretically has the advantage of being an address that one can use for a long time and just change where it "points" if/when you change real access providers. ic.org (Fellowship for Intentional Community) provides 'vanity addresses'also. I personally think that tho cohousing.org is a bit long for an address, it is much more meaningful than ic.org. Contact me if you would be interested in a cohousing.org address. (No procedure is in place to apply for such addresses yet but if there were demand, maybe we'd get around to working out the details.) Mtn (Mpls. Telecom. Network - cable tv public access and Internet access provider to non-profit orgs) which is cohousing.org's current access provider will be hopefully be making some improvements in the way the cohousing.org domain is address is handled to make it more seamless and transparent in the way it is used. (You've probably noticed the cohousing-L messages coming from 'freedom.mtn.org' for example.) Fred Fred -- NEW ADDRESSS NEW ADDRESSS NEW ADDRESSS NEW ADDRESSS OCT 1997 Fred H.
