Raines Cohen said re generating electricity with natural gas on cohousing 
sites:

Bruce Coldham has given this considerable thought and other kinds of 
things made possible by a cooperative neighborhood in an article in 
Cohousing Magazine a couple years ago.  I believe he's actively involved 
in such work in Ithaca, NY.
