Mistakenly posted messages - dont apologize

I just mistakenly posted a message about a dropped sub due to a vacation
program to Cohousing-L ... Sorry. It had no subject line.

In general I discourage following up such mistakes with messages of
apology, if it is fairly obvious that it was a mistake. The apology in my
view is not really needed and constitutes one more off topic message (
"noise" ).

If the message is not an obvious mistake and/or needs some explanation
etc, that is different. If it can serve as the basis of some other
cohousing related topic, go ahead and reply. In general I assume people
recognise their mistakes and will try harder to avoid them in the future.
Occasionally I send a message directly to the poster to point out the
mistake and gently encourage them to be more careful. ( I resolve double
ckeck the To: field when I start to compose a message and to LOOK AGAIN
before hitting the send key .... )

On the Vacation program topic.

If you are going on vacation and using a vacation program that sends and
automatic reply to messages recieved, you should make provisions that such
replies do not get sent to mailing list messages. Cohousing-L 's
listserver software (Listproc) allows suspending mail to a subscriber with
the postpone command:

SET COHOUSING-L MAIL POSTPONE

To restart mail send one of the commands:

SET COHOUSING-L MAIL DIGEST
SET COHOUSING-L MAIL DIGEST

Send commands to listproc [at] cohousing.org
