I remember in particular one time I was hanging my laundry and asked a fellow cohouser to help hang my sheets. He was doing laundry during a weekday morning he had off from his job as a vending machine repairman; I was home on comp time from my engineering job. As we hung our socks, sheets, and underwear, we noted that it was pretty unlikely that our fathers ever would have been in this situation and fell into an interesting conversation about men's and women's roles in our own families. To me, those casual interactions, often with people I wouldn't otherwise live with, are the best part of a cohousing community.
