I don't live in cohousing, but my apartment complex does have a gate, and
I hate it. It doesn't keep salespeople or robbers out, since all you need
do is wait for someone with a gate key to come and simply follow them in.
However, it does make it harder for my friends to visit since we have to
let them in specially. Gates are a nice sounding gimmick, but worse than
useless (in my oh so humble opinion..).
