At the national cohousing conference in Amherst, The Cohousing Network will be conducting an auction to raise money we hope to have a good time as well). Peter Jessup and I will be the auctioneers (it's being held on Saturday just before the Talent Show - I assume this is being done to quickly wipe out all memory of the lack of talent on the part of the auctioneers). So . . there's an auction planned, but nothing to auction (except for a few items already offered by Zev Paiss). That's where you come in. We need items to auction. Almost anything will do, either services (anything you can do for others that you're willing to donate and they might be willing to buy) or goods (anything you've got or can get that you'd be willing to donate that someone might actually want). For example, Bill Cosby lives in the Amherst area. It would be good if someone can get him to agree to: come to the successful bidder's house, cook and serve a meal for four, and talk non-stop while he's cooking and serving, without burning anything or breaking anything. I think that would bring in a few bucks, don't you? Okay, I'll start it off. How about a tour of island Cohousing on Martha's Vineyard (currently under construction) for two? While you're here, you'll need to eat, so how about dinner at the Red Cat? And you'll want to stay for the night, and we can't yet offer a guest room in the common house, so let's try a room at the picturesque Lamberts Cove Inn? To top it off we'll offer a tour of one of South Mountain Company's favorite houses and a visit to its hidden away beach. Okay? A tour of Island Cohousing, a tour of a special house and property, dinner for two at the Red Cat, and a night at the Lamberts Cove Inn. You provide your own transportation. Anyone want to start the bidding? Do I hear . . . . So. . . individuals, groups, anyone you can think of - please donate to make this a lively event and a good fundraiser. E-mail donation offers to cohousingauction [at] integbuild.com. Thanks - John Abrams Island Cohousing West Tisbury, MA (16 units under construction, all goes well, occupancy spring 2000)
