Communities magazine is pleased to call for articles for a special issue
focused on Cohousing!

If you'd like to write for this issue, please contact guest editors
Michael McIntyre and Rob Sandelin at CmagCohousing [at] umich.edu today to
describe your article idea. Overall, we are looking for articles that
bring out similarities and differences with other forms of intentional
community and discuss what cohousing can directly learn from, and
contribute to other ICs. We have specific interest in exploring the
following threads and welcome additional ideas:

* Introduction to cohousing and how it fits into the larger communities
movement.
* Common causes of conflict in coho communities and what could help.
* How to maintain buy-in with community principles and vision given that
exiting members can sell to whomever they wish.
* Achievements of Peramculture & ecological design in coho. Are our
sustainable development practices influencing mainstream developers?
* What we've learned about making cohousing more legitimate and
desirable in mainstream culture (banks, zoning officials, neighbors)
* The Cohousing Network. * How do issues of class play into cohousing
communities?
* Is cohousing moving intentional community closer to the mainstream?
How do mainstream affiliations limit or help community development?
* Achieving and maintaining community ? more than a nice neighborhood.

Article content: Although we're looking for practical information, and
brief overview "how-to's," articles need not be all facts--it's best if
they're vivid and lively. And while we're definitely interested in
"success stories," we would also like to hear about the difficult times,
the failures (and why), and the challenges. Article length is 750 to
3000 words.

We would particularly like to hear how you personally may have been
affected by your experiences. How have your opinions about creating or
living in a cohousing community been changed, validated, or surprised?
How might your story help others who are living in or interested in communities?

We also want your cohousing related photos, poems, artwork to enhance
this exciting issue.

Article deadline: Octs 25th, 1999

Our Contributors: We want to hear from anyone with a story to
tell--community members, founders, or seekers; writers or budding
writers; people with specialized knowledge; academic researchers. Write
about your community, or one you're familiar with, or about several,
comparing & contrasting.

You don't have to be an experienced or polished writer, or ever have
been published before. If you simply have a story to tell, we want to
hear from you!
