re: unlikelihood of cohousers sharing cars, etc. I think that one piece that is missing here is that for at least some groups, (I don't have Rob's broad perspective) the commitment is not so much to ownership of homes, per se, as to getting the community into existence, and very few of us have had access to funds to make rentals feasible, or were willing to try to sustain the group long enough to search for such a funding mechanism. Granted, many people that join later on *are* wanting home ownership. But many people contact us wanting to rent, and what stops them is our not having it set up. I don't think people would be opposed to committed, long term renters, tho some stuff would be set up differently. And, income sharing is another level of commitment to the community and its ideology(probably). Another filter.
