In last Thursday's paper, I read that Australia has overtaken the USA on a per capita basis as "worst greenhouse gas polluter". The news didn't get a lot of attention as it is difficult to read. Generally, we love to redirect our attention to the consumption levels of the USA. Mind you, now we can blame rural Queensland for the score. Paradoxically, our local car manufacturers are looking ahead, worried about the markets after 2040, when oil supplies are predicted to run down. Housing design seems to be in a reminiscing phase, rather than looking to the future. However, there is a danger in fixating on a gloom & doom scenario. Cohousing makes it much easier to avoid this Abilene Paradox in which we do what no one really wants yet we do it as we think everyone else really wants this. So, www.rmi.org/faq/homeq.html#1 gives a great list of well researched ideas on what can be done in terms of housing. I think they deserve links with lots of websites! Hans www.vicnet.net.au/~cohouse
