Here's an idea to thought provoking scheme, sourced from Kevin Bailey from the firm Money Managers: If you are jointly buying comparable property, you can buy the property for someone else and vice versa. Then you rent each other's property, turning the property into an investment. Eventually of course, you swap back. You'll need a good tax accountant. If, as was my first reaction, you think this sounds dodgy, remember this. It's not only legal here in Australia to rent and claim a tax rebate whilst renting out a property at the same time, but supported by politicians from both the left and right. Hans Melbourne
