Cohousing tip-toes a fine line between being grassroots (originally
associated with the political left) and enterpreneurship (traditionally seen
as a right wing activity). Whilst the majority of initiators are evidently
above average in levels of education, teachers and social workers are over
represented.

One extraordinary example of this progressive / conservative fuse would be
http://www.rmi.org which somehow conjures up the idea of "natural
capitalism".

I'd like to see a concerted effort to ensure that cohousing is affordable
(http://home.vicnet.net.au/~cohouse/save.htm ), is inclusive and diverse.
For example, environmental ideals are often quite expensive (eg active
solar, grey water systems) given the low cost of energy at the moment. I
think that a degree of wealth is required to afford environmentally sound
practices. Capitalist western Europe is a lot cleaner than centrally
governed Russia!
