On what if questions --

Years ago when I wanted to start my first business venture I was fortunate
to have a consultant who was an old hand in the garment industry in
Manhattan. He had run everything from hotdog stands to wedding veil shops to
a sewing machine factory.

What he did was sort out what were the big problems and what I didn't have
to worry about at all. I was doing mail order and crazed about the inventory
problems, for example. He wouldn't even discuss it. Never a problem. Million
ways to do it.

Perhaps we need such a list for new cohousing groups. The question "What
happens if a crazy person of one sort or another wants to join?" has been
asked at every orientation session I have attended or conducted and it
appears on this list with _great_ frequency. I suspect it is the very first
on the list of things NOT to worry about.

If you are clear about your goals and have a process that values everyone in
the group equally, the crazies leave. Crazies do not like anything rational.

Crazies also don't like to do any work. Cohousing is a lot of work.
