East Bay Cohousing (EBCOHO) is holding an open planning
meeting/orientation tonight (Thurs., May 3) in Berkeley, to strategize on
how to build a new Cohousing community in the area. With new energy
coming to the group, we're looking at how best to move forward on site
searching and group development, and to prepare to take the fullest
advantage of the upcoming North American conference coming our way this
July.

EBCOHO has been meeting regularly for 2.5 years as a group-in-formation,
searching for a site in the urban East Bay (centered around
Berkeley/Oakland, CA; stretching as far as Richmond and San Leandro).
It's been taking a break this Spring, letting the region's overheated
real estate market cool a bit and members sort out their priorities, and
is in the process of figuring out its next steps, based largely on who
steps forward willing to do the work of organizing, site searching, and
community building. This could be YOU!

Cohousing is a form of intentional community characterized by private
ownership of individual (typically condo) units, member participation in
the design process, a shared Common House, regular common meals, and
consensus decision-making. There are more than five built cohousing
communities in the Berkeley-Oakland-Emeryville area, and 55 in North
America, with twenty more under construction and at least a hundred more
in the planning or development process. As a member of The Cohousing
Network, EBCOHO members are looking forward to participating in the North
American Cohousing Conference, to be held at UC Berkeley this July 20-22,
and Karen Hester's Retrofit Cohousing seminar coming up Saturday, May 12.
