What's unqualified/"taboo" about membership in a nonprofit professional 
association that provides educational materials that supports your 
mission? TCN membership may even be tax-DEDUCTIBLE in part (if your 
organization isn't already tax-exempt). Sounds to me like a legitimate 
expense for the business. Lots of Homeowner Associations have budgets for 
publications/memberships, and there are lots of HOA member 
organizations... TCN is just another one, from a tax auditor's point of 
view, it would seem to me.
