Hi Garvin,
"Communities" magazine had an issue (the one
before the last, I think) about student co-ops.
A number of the ones described were in the 
Berkeley area.
                                                     
Visit www.ic.org - I don't know if the magazine
appears in an electronic form, but if I'm not mistaken
the directory of communities is on line.  Or to order
the magazine, call 800-462-8240.
