I think the most important things said about the commonhouse are:

1. Its importance is that it is there when needed.
2. Adults don't hang out much. Scheduled activities are more common.

College students and teenagers hang out. I don' t really want to hang out at
all and I thought I would. I had visions of this being just like graduate
school where we met every morning for coffee and read the paper together and
discussed world events and professional gossip. Anytime I wanted to see
people there would be a table of them in the commonhouse to play cards or
share disaster news with.

Hanging out was so. But I was also 21 and everything was alive and real and
new and true and important. Hanging out now is just boring. I have so many
other things I enjoy doing.
