I wonder if a notice handed out at a general meeting giving thanks to those who have volunteered their skills to make the project happen and the virtual value of those contributions would help Charlene realize the disconnect in her contribution policy? It could be a notice that says something like, we'd like to thank Diane for her graphic design work that saved the group $20,000 in marketing costs. We thank Bill for his contribution in research that would have cost $15,000 in research costs. We thank Margaret for her contribution in Administrative work that would have cost about 18,000 in the open market. Their efforts so far have saved us $53,000 on our project which has reduced our unit costs by nearly $2,000 per unit. Way to go! If you would like to join our unit cost reduction team by volunteering your skills, contact the Coordinating Committee about how to contribute. I'll call her "Charlene." Charlene is well liked by the group and doesn't take up a lot of group time with discussion and emotional issues, but is not much of a contributor to the group either. But Charlene makes what many of us feel are inappropriate requests for information due to a specific interest in landing a contract with the group. She asks to see copies of legal documents and contracts that her committee is not currently working on, claiming that that will help her decide to become a member. Also, although Charlene has expertise in a certain area, she deliberately chose not to join the committee working in that area, even though she could be a major contributor to that effort. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
