Rowena Conkling of Cambridge Cohousing asked me to pass along the following:

<I'm not on the list at the moment, so you might want to pass along a
warning.  Hardiboard does get moldy and crumble if exposed to damp
situations, too close to soil, etc., just like wooden siding.  We have had
to remove several boards that were installed too close to the earth.>
