actually I disagree with your disagreement, I think 'parliamentary' type decision making came in when the people 'deciding' were no longer part of a community where everybody new each other and had to live with the consequences of their decisions modern national democratic governments are a case in point in cohousing however, whatever decision making system is used, we do live in close proximity with each other so some result whether well used 'majority voting' or badly used 'consensus' or vice versa it still has to lead to an overall acceptance by most people in the community I agree with the earlier comment about it's not so much the TYPE of system but how well it works in any particular group 'good' systems can fail 'bad' systems can work > My only disagreement with Ann's statement is that as Tree has pointed out, > consensus based communities are not new. Parliamentary procedure is much > newer, in historical terms, very new, and was developed in order to resolve > conflicts _between_ communities (or their representatives) that were not > interested in having consensus. They had competing interests. _______________________________________________ Cohousing-L mailing list Cohousing-L [at] cohousing.org Unsubscribe and other info: http://www.communityforum.net/mailman/listinfo/cohousing-l
