Thanks for the prompting, Shaon (and Ellen). I'll follow suit. Our community is between names, so I hesitate to name it, but we are temporarily using the name Honey Creek. We are the third cohousing community in Michigan (all three of which are within 20 acres of one another in Ann Arbor). Our site is a lovely six-acre prairie surrounded by fields, trees and a nature preserve, but is less than 10 driving minutes from downtown Ann Arbor, a midwest mecca of food, arts, culture, the University of Michigan and excellent public schools (of course, I teach in the system, so I'm biased!). We are currently revising our site plan with our architects from the Cohousing Company (yay, Chuck and Katie!) and our common house programming is coming up in November. Depending on how fast we grow, the tentative plan is to break ground in spring of 2003. Our developer is the Cohousing Development Company (CDC). We currently have 11 member households out of a projected total of between 42 and 46 units, many of which are singles. We also have one- and two-parent families with children (4 kids so far) and older singles with grown children. One of our primary foci has been to include small one-bedroom units for under $100k, but we also plan to include larger units (our rough estimate is a 4-bedroom for $400k). We will have one-car garages, some adjacent to the units and some detached, as well as uncovered parking. As I mentioned, we are in a fairly unique situation in that we are directly adjacent to two other cohousing communities: the member-developed Sunward, in place for five years, and CDC-developed Great Oak, just breaking ground this month. This means we will essentially have an extended community of 120 households. Our north side butts up against the Great Oak site, so we plan to share amenities such as a workshop and a garden, not to mention fields, streams and lots of love. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to be part of such a fantastic group of people, and I would love to hear from anyone on cohousing-l who would like to know more about the cohousing group formerly known as Honey Creek. =) Email me at maggi [at] intranet.org, or talk directly to Nick Meima at nick [at] sunward.org.
