In case any of you know anyone in Oregon interested in Cohousing please forward it on. Thanks, Bruce Hecht NEW COHOUSING NEIGHBORHOOD COMING TO CORVALLIS The CoHo Cohousing group will present "Cohousing and Our Community", at the Corvallis Benton County library on Sunday, October 27 at 7pm. CoHo is a forming group that plans to build a neighborhood of 20 to 30 privately owned homes using the concept of cohousing. Cohousing communities are small-scale neighborhoods created with resident participation, which provide a balance between personal privacy and the advantages of community living. In cohousing, residents know their neighbors very well and there is a strong sense of community that is absent in today's cities and suburbs. Private homes enjoy convenient access to shared space, including a "common house" with facilities such as a kitchen, dining room, a play room for children, workshops, guest rooms, office space, a sitting area and laundry. Each home is self sufficient with a complete kitchen. In addition, cohousing neighborhoods typically offer optional resident cooked meals in the common house a few times each week. Cohousing was brought to this country in 1988 by the husband/wife design team of Kathryn McCamant and Chuck Durrett. Its origins were in Denmark in the 1970's and it was introduced to the U.S. in 1988. Residents moved into the first American cohousing project in 1991. (Muir Commons in Davis, CA). Currently there are more than 150 cohousing neighborhoods in North America completed, under construction, or in the development process. The CoHo presentation on Sunday the 27th will be followed by discussion and refreshments.
