Hi Leslie, Here at Jackson Place Cohousing our common house isn't the biggest. It was made smaller by the need to add some units. We put some apartments in the upper floors to make the whole project more affordable. But we still had to build in two adult accessible bathrooms. We also have a children's bathroom in the kids' room. We have 44 adult residents and 12 children. And we frequently have guests for dinner and parties. No one has to wait very long to use a bathroom, although there is a line during the meeting breaks. Hope this helps. This will cut into the space in a children's room that doesn't seem very large already. Our project is in the early stages of being built and we are appealing this decision. Just thought it might help to find out if this has come up in other projects. If we can say, "no other cohousing common houses have gendered washrooms", it may strengthen our appeal. Thanks.
