In researching the message about visitors I searched the archives and one
message mentioned refered to some folks who wanted to visit but were 'not
just looking for a cheap place to stay'. The implication being that
cohousing communities might be offended at being used as a hostel. Fair
enough. But some communities do have guest rooms.

The topic of arranging to stay in a community as a guest seems like a
logical extension to the topic of "visitors".

Staying overnight in a cohousing communities as guest offers a much better
idea of what the community is like than just being present for a few hours
as a guest. I highly recommend it for people who are considering moving
to an established community before deciding. When we visited cohousing in
1999 (see link to pictures via my website - url below) our group of 8
stayed in hostels (and a hostel-like hotel in central Copenhagen called
Hotel Jorgensen). I (just me) did however stay in a cohousing community
in Stockholm. It was easily the community I remember best. I did not
arrange it in advance but rather had a contingency plan and when I visited
I sensed it was a reasonable possiblity and asked. I had prearranged my
visit by email from the US - just not the staying overnight. Not ideal
but it worked for me. If the broader cohousing movement could develop
some conventions on acceptable etiquette on this it would be helpful.
