rob, and to all the others that reponded offline,thanx for your feedback, 
advice and suggestions. even if i wasn't interested in going the cohousing 
route this is a very interesting and educational route for me.
however, the strong likelihood is that, after tying up loose ends, we'll be 
available to travel and visit some sites that we'll continue to bookmark till 
then and hopefully buy, or temporarily lease something. our big advantage is 
that we're not looking to relocate for work or business related issues, so 
we're open to a lot of stuff.
 overcoming my catholic guilt syndrome (you have to sacrifice your enjoyment 
for the sake of the kids, you can't just go and move somewhere because it's 
warmer, what dya mean fun - life is serious business, you have to do 
something so that your family will be proud of you  etc. etc.) is part of the 
process.
and, especially the feedback regarding children, and relocating them, has 
been very helpful and encouraging.
