> pros to living in cohousing as a single parent ... By the time the kindergartener's parents found out last Saturday that he'd fallen through a manhole into a large underground cistern, he'd already been fished out by the former emergency medical tech and another neighbor, carried home, and the pediatrician found to look him over for anything beyond bruises and a bloody nose. At suppertime when the EMT (normally our cassandra, hyper-vigilant) apologized for the manhole being open while the maintenance committee fixed some plumbing, his father just smiled and gestured to where the child animatedly retold the story to the other children, saying that he was enjoying being a hero.
