" On a visit to another cohousing community, we were told that it was
benificial to have restricted
membership to one third families, one third couples and one third singles.

Hi all
N Street is an interesting example. Out of 40 adults.
18 have families in the community with 18 kids. This just decreased as one
couple's last kid just left the house. So that moves them into the couple
category. This also includes two single parent families.

We have four couples (8 adults without kids - 3 because they don't have any
kids yet.) Three of these couples were single people in the community who
became couples after meeting each other here.

We have 19 single adults (non coupled). 2 are elderly whose spouses have died.
Three are divorced whose kids live in the community. One is a widow with a
young kid. i(Note that these last four people are in both the family and the
single column.)

We attribute our great diversity in this area to almost 50% of the homes are
long term rentals which allow for more non-family adults (often those not able
to buy a house) to live here.
