In a perfect world, you would have a kitchen designer who is used to working with accessibility issues work with you during the design phase. But having a member in a wheelchair is a real plus. Then they can be on the committee and tell you what works and doesn't. We have a low counter and an accessible sink. The counter didn't get used, because it was in the way of the entrance when the chair was there. She moved out for unrelated reasons and still visits all our functions. The sink she did use, and I recommend having one with no cupboards underneath. The center island did make it difficult to get around in a chair, but was so necessary for everything else. WE have cutting boards that come out from the island, and she used those a lot. -- Liz Stevenson Southside Park Cohousing Sacramento, California tamgoddess [at] attbi.com _______________________________________________ Cohousing-L mailing list Cohousing-L [at] cohousing.org Unsubscribe and other info: http://www.cohousing.org/cohousing-L
