One option which may lend itself to cohousing in particular, could be David Easton's innovative spraying process he has called Pneumatically Impacted Stabilized Earth (see http://www.rammedearthworks.com/process.html ). This building process seems more efficient than rammed earth, yet has many of the positive qualities warranting further exploring.
