I don't think anyone has mentioned this yet: When we (at Pleasant Hill
Cohousing) were making the decision to not have air conditioning in our
units, there were some members who worried about being too hot in the
summer. We then found (I think Chuck found it actually) a portable air
conditioning unit for around $800 (I think) which is about the size of a
portable heater and vents through the window or through a special hole in
the wall which was an option that could be added during construction. Some
of our members went this route and have used the air conditioner when
needed and as far as I have heard, are very happy with the arrangement.
