Actually this sort of brings up two old debates- o The definition of cohousing o Income arrangements of members Occasionally the argument is made that such and such feature of a community makes it something other than cohousing in the writer's opinion. In my opinion there is a great latitude as to what can be called cohousing (maybe with some qualification). This is due to the feature that the people who live there decide what the community will be. Thus they have considerable latitude. On the specific of income arrangements, I'd suggest that a subset of members could have home businesses , a coop maybe even with exclusive facilities in the common house (if they can arrive at a suitable contract with the community as a whole) without straying too far from what I think of as cohousing. If participation became a prerequisite for community membership, I'd start to think of it as something else. Just my opinion. Fred -- Fred H.
