I went to the conference. I attended the Conflict Resolution workshop given by Tree and Shari on Friday, and Saturday sessions offered by Laird and Zev. I mostly went looking for process info (I'm the point person for our process committee) and looking for folks who we might hire for help with process and group development issues. I missed Sunday's events in order to get back home in time to be with my daughter and be ready for work the next day. I enjoyed the whole thing. I was exposed to lots of new ideas and good folks. The biggest impact that the conference had on me was to put our local effort in a larger context of community. I enjoyed meeting folks from other communities in various stages of development and hearing of their experiences and seeing them risk practicing facilitation, etc. I look forward to more interaction with people in other communities, and to the time (a couple of years hence) when I can say, as was said to me, "let me know when you can come, and I'll book a guest room". My sense of community got bigger. It was a good feeling. Seems like one thing that the organization might do would be to facilitate/encourage more inter-community contact. [Clearly the conference had this effect]. Two of the presenters suggested that we ought to swap facilitation with other communities. This sounds like a great idea. We're not built yet, and I have no idea what it is like with those that are. Do folks folks who've moved in have interest in contact with other communities (exchanging visits, etc), or is everybody pretty much focused on their own situations, and inter-community contact just happens on an accidental personal level or when a conference or business motivates it? As you can see, I've got a lot to learn yet.
