meal option- bring your own

The main joy of common eating is the social interaction. When we first
had our RoseWind common house, but hadn't yet gotten our big kitchen
functional, I took an idea from another group and declared Mondays "bring
your supper" night. For some months we had Monday meals together, each
arriving with our plate or bowl in hand! It took less preparation than
potluck, though often someone would choose to bring a dessert or dish to
share.

Now we've been doing common cooking for a couple of years. We make an
effort to accomodate people's food preferences but now and then people
simply come with their own meal in hand - especially if they are on a
diet of some sort. I've also sometimes come to a potluck with my own
meal, either because I only want to eat a particular diet item, or
because I didn't have time to prepare a dish to share. In any case, we
are eating together, and that feels good.
