I agree with your principles & am sympathetic to your position. At the small scale we typically do things, however, those principles don't seem relevant. Everyone in our community is basically middle-class, so if I spend $20 on the park bench whereas you spend $10, then no social injustice has really occurred - at least from a pragmatic POV. The amounts in question are in the "discretionary" range for all concerned. Anyway, I can see there might be a cultural benefit to a "pure consensus" system - our group has made a trade-off on this for improved efficiency.
