We have a system where each household puts an amount that is self-determined
into a capital improvement fund. All of our money is hard-earned, as far as
I know. It works quite well.

I am baffled as to why nobody believes that this works, and why everyone is
so adamant about allowing large gifts. If I were just a crackpot, I don't
think there would be quite this much energy being put into trying to prove
that I'm wrong by so many people. I've seen plenty of silly ideas ignored
completely on this list.
