The compassionate Care fund is a privately administered, collection of funds to help community members with financial needs. People donate money to the fund individually and anonymously. There is a team of three which oversees this money. Any community member can ask one of the administrators for funds, either loans or grants from this fund. The three administrators make all decisions anonymously. Any community member that has contributed to the fund can ask for a financial report at anytime. I understand no one ever has. Occasionally an email notice goes out about a fund raiser for the fund, usually a low key thing. Its is not part of our official community finances in anyway, although I do know some people contribute money monthly by voluntarily increasing their assessment, writing a separate check to the administrators. There is a bank account called the compassionate care fund. How is it structured? Who decides who gets gifts or loans? Several years ago we decided to create a Heartwood Humanitarian Fund along the same lines, but it hasn't yet gotten off the ground. It doesn't seem to be enough of a priority until someone actually needs the financial assistance. Do any other groups out there have this kind of fund?
