I was assuming that there was no quality difference between the
pre-painted and the field painted, and that either one would need to be
repainted after the same period of time.  Because the material is
pre-primed on all sides, it should perform similarly well in either case. 

I also was assuming that there would be other materials that needed to be
painted as well, so the painter could not be completely omitted from the
labor list in either case.  If the siding is the only thing that needs to
be painted, then it may be possible that the pre-finished material would
be more cost effective than having a painter paint it after installation. 

However, I believe that the pre-finishing is something that is done at di
fferent regional plants, so other experience may be different.  Also,
there may be quantity advantages available to larger projects that would
help make pre-finishing more reasonable.
