An introductory cohousing slide presentation is scheduled at The CoHousing
Company on January 19 from 7:00 - 9:00 pm. Address: 1250 Addison Street

Cohousing communities cluster private, self-sufficient dwellings around a
community center. Potential homeowners participate in the development of the
community and help establish priorities from the very beginning. The
resulting tight-knit intergenerational neighborhoods make it easy for
families to share childcare, yard work, and other resources and facilitate a
strong sense of community. Clustering the homes and designing for energy
efficiency reduces both day-to-day costs and the impact on the environment.

The concept of cohousing came from Denmark and was brought to the United
States by pioneers Kathryn McCamant and Charles Durrett, who founded The
CoHousing Company in 1987.  There are 60 cohousing communities in the U.S.
at this time and many groups in various stages of development.

Senior cohousing has recently come in the news and we expect that many such
communities will be built.
