Let's not debate the future oil here but those who have concluded that
petroleum based products are going to become more scarce and expensive
are welcome to discuss how cohousing communities can prepare / respond.

More expensive oil may make it more socially acceptable to share
transportation - sharing rides, vehicles, combining trips, reducing the
need for transportation, (e.g. sharing facilities to work on site
(some?)). Specifics for how this might be done are appropriate here.
Clearly, the design of cohousing makes the logistics easier as well as the
coordination. Electronic networks should help the latter too.
Of course, building in areas that can be served by transit is a huge step.

There are probably non-transportation topics and secondary effects of the
end of plentiful oil that cohousing communities can respond to that may be
worth discussing here.

Fred, listserv manager who used to hithchike and wishes it were a viable
option again and who uses a bicycle as the second vehicle in our
household which among other benefits reduces our dependance on oil.
