Mike, At Eastern Village Cohousing, we have adopted the following meeting ground rules: 1. Own your Language (use "I" statements) 2. We'll use a queue, managed by the facilitator 3. Assume positive intent 4. Do not interrupt the speaker 5. Emotion is okay, aggression is not 6. Be respectful of each other 7. Take responsibility for communicating 8. Listen to others with rapture 9. Silence electronic devices (e.g. cell phones, pagers) 10. You may interrupt to request an explanation of jargon These were created as a joint effort among several of our facilitators as well as research of many cohousing web sites. In fact several of them were part of the "toolbox" of items that Laird gave us when he first gave a training to the community. Several of us are discussing the possibility of adding to the rules somewhat, but nothing has been proposed specifically: A. Do what you say you are going to do B. Give everyone a chance to speak before speaking a second time. >I would like to have a few more examples to share (we are meeting this >Sunday), so if any of you could send out what you have, it >would be most >appreciated. Any other words of wisdom are welcome, too! > >Mike Swettenam >Oak Creek Commons >Paso Robles, CA
