Lynn, it seems to me that there are always special interest groups--some
benefit from the tot lot and others don't, same with media, computer, art,
etc. rooms. I expect there to be groups that discuss books or do yoga
together. Isn't this what a community is about, people finding things to
share? However, I have a couple of questions:
1. Are the "clubs" open to everyone to join at the beginning of the season?
This seems desirable if community resources are being used.
2. You imply that "club" work is being substituted for "community" work. I
assume that the garden club is not taking care or the community area, but
just their gardens. This is the bigger problem to me. How do you share
"community" work? One group recently posted that there is a 4 hour work
expectation for all "adults" and if this was not fulfilled, the hours were
billed quarterly with the community fee at a replacement rate ($25 as I
remember).
