We have a 2 bedroom apartment coming available within a month
at Greenway Park Cohousing.

This is a rental building owned by a not-for-profit. It is also
a subsidized building, requiring that the household qualify as
low income (80% Chicago median income). Our building is
comprised of 8 units, varying from 1-3 bedroom apartments, 3 of
which are handicap accessible. The basement has storage space,
laundry facilities, bike parking, and a common area, consisting
of tables, chairs, couches, t.v., ping-pong table and other
games. We also have a nice back yard and a garden in the
adjacent lot.

We are in a neighorhood 2 1/2 blocks south of Hyde Park that is
quickly gentrifying. We are easily accessible to public
transportation, the lakeshore bike path, and expressways. Most
of us go into Hyde Park or downtown for business. (There's no
local economy.)

The households consist of a diverse group of people. Of the
adults, occupations vary widely, including a carpenter, a
teacher/writer, a newpaper stand owner, a student/public health
counselor, a daycare provider, a mortgage consultant, and a few
others that I'm not sure about. There are 10 children in the
building, ranging from 2-14. Half of the children are
homeschooled, some attend a local Montessori school, and some
attend the public schools. All of the children are great and a
pleasure to be around.

Amongst us are omnivores and herbivores. Some of us purchase
organic foods and buy in bulk. We grow a variety of vegetables
in our garden, where we all contribute work hours. We are
sensitive to maintaining a positive spirit in the building. We
have occasional potlucks and barbeques, but no set meal sharing
schedule. We have a monthly game night and a monthly building
meeting. We rotate turns cleaning common areas. I will soon be
setting up our new compost bin.

We need to fill this vacancy ASAP, so please forward any
potentials candidates to me directly at
MarlaMortgageConsultant [at] yahoo.com or 773-617-2424.

Peace, love, and happiness,
Marla
