Hi Kelly,Hmmm. Maybe I need to pay more attention to what is normally found in banquet halls. Are you imagining fake wood-grained tops, dark in color with plastic edgebanding? What I am suggesting is a definite improvement.
Ours are used with or without tablecloths; three coats of alkyd polyurethane is waterproof, solvent (i.e. alcohol) proof, stain proof, and somewhat dent-and-scratch proof. Aesthetic appeal varies according to species and cut of wood used; tables can be anything from perfectly tolerable to absolutely stunning.
Hope that helps. Mark On Monday, October 24, 2005, at 05:37 AM, Hyghroad [at] aol.com wrote:
Dear Marc:These tables sound interesting. I will be keeping copies of this and any other posts as we will "hopefully" be building our commonhouse in the next year.I was wondering - are these tables similar to the ones one sees at banquethalls? If so, do they always need table clothes? Standard legs are available cheaply from many sources (e.g., http://www.rockler.com/). Tops can be easily fabricated from sheets of cabinet-grade hardwood plywood edged with matching hardwood strips._________________________________________________________________ Cohousing-L mailing list -- Unsubscribe, archives and other info at: http://www.cohousing.org/cohousing-L/
