The Wild Sage cohousing community in Boulder, CO has several Habitat for Humanity homes. I hear that the Habitat families rarely if ever participate in common meals. It appears that there are several reasons for this: first, Habitat manages the selection process for new members; second, there is a higher turnover in these units, because they tend to be treated as starter homes by the owner families; and third, the cost of the common meals (which are all organic) are expensive by the standards of the Habitat families. The participation issue may extend beyond meals, but you'd need to speak to someone at the community to get more details. Rick Mockler
