Cohousers, It will be interesting to see if the as needed approach to assistance works for our communities. My experience is that older people (who are just starting to need help) are loath to ask for it because of the change in status it implies. That's why there are so many red flag events of falls and accidents. An in place system or agreement would lower the threshold to asking for assistance. I also worry about the first line caregivers in the community; they get burned out. Much of the burden of assistance falls to those who don't have little kids and are at home. And coordinating the many types of care can get messy fast. If there's any truth to cohousing it's that there are many ways of doing things and I look forward to hearing how each of us handles these needs in our community.
