We also built a 'custom' play structure called the S.S. Ponderosa in the shape of a ship with lots of original play features. We didn't specifically ask our insurance agent before we built it, but during they're subsequent site inspections, they haven't raised any concerns. The S.S. Ponderosa has turned out to be hugely popular with the kids and is a real gathering place for them.

We've certainly struggled at times with trying to balance the liability driven concerns of the insurance world with creating community activities that we want and that we think make good sense.

Cheers,
Mac

We have the good fortune to have among our members a landscape architect who has a most original mind and is very good at thinking outside the box. With his leadership, Stone Curves is in the process of building a children's playground that does not necessarily conform to standards of playground design that are required of public playgrounds by most municipalities. We are building our own playground features, and not purchasing ready-made equipment. We want a unique design that is great fun for all and to save money.

Liability and insurance issues are being discussed with the understanding that friends and guests of our children will also be using the equipment. Many scenarios have been raised about possible injuries, lawsuits, etc. Has anyone else dealt with this issue, and what has your experience been?
