Songaia Cohousing is 38 people on 11 acres in 15 units near Seattle. But this might change, read on... Since construction, we've received 2-3 inquiries per week on availability of homes... this is despite our consistent website messaging that no units are available (we have had just one resale in our six years). What we've done over the years is refer people to other Seattle area cohousing communities... and we know of people who have subsequently moved into Sharingwood, RoseWind, Jackson Place, Duwamish, and Puget Ridge. I think the value of our homes for our location, which is an easy commute to a lot of good Seattle/Redmond jobs and the beauty of our land are attractive to many. Our vibrant community culture, which includes singing, much celebration, and an extensive food program, etc. deter some, but attract others. We have recently begun talking about expansion - we've been a strong community since our 2000 expansion to cohousing. In 2000, we self-developed new duplexes and retro-fitted two buildings into our common house and 3 duplexes (prices were $170-235K). Our expansion visions are still emerging, but ideas include new rental spaces retro-fitted from existing buildings and new housing clusters. We're considering both Elder/Senior-focused and multi-generational spaces. This work is just beginning and we are just now starting to engage with people outside our existing community, including prospecitive developer partners. We are not yet prepared to engage with prospective new members... If you are interested in being notified about these opportunities - or other Songaia Announcements, you can join our brand new LOW VOLUME mailing list. Just visit our homepage: http://www.songaia.com and sign up using the little form at the bottom of the page (you can always unsubscribe there as well). Note: Songaia does NOT have any current openings (rental or sale). People on the Songaia Announcements list will be the first to hear of any opportunities. Some new rental situations may be possible in 2006 (and of course owners of existing units might choose to move on as well, though none have shared that intent). New and possibly retro-fitted units for sale would come on the market over the next few years - we don't plan to self-develop this time (grin). Craig P.S. Maybe I'll see you at the National Cohousing Conference ( http://cohousing.org/conference.aspx)! You need to register before June 25 to take advantage of the early-registration discount!
