At Concord Village in beautiful Chester County, PA we are considering enlisting the help of an intern. (I have had the luxury of being able to work most of the summer for our community, but now that school has started, I am back at work.) An intern might be someone who presently lives in cohousing but has recently graduated from college or someone who has recently retired. An intern could also be a student in a university or college majoring in land use, land planning, community organizing, or a similar major. The intern could help both our community and our sister forming community, also in Chester County. We are both in similar stages of building the group and looking for land or doing research on the feasibility of land we have found. We would expect to offer free room and board and gas money and directions in how to achieve what we need help with as well as advice from professionals. The successful applicant intern would need to have a working car, be self-motivated, relatively independent, and knowledgeable about some aspects of starting a community or highly motivated to learn. If you would like to experience a different part of the country and help two cohousing communities through a critical stage of their development toward success, please email me or call one of our members, Lydia Rehrman, at 717 529 3889 during the day or between 8:15 and 10 p.m. Lydia can also be reached at <lrehrman [at] yahoo.com>. If you have suggestions for how to help us find someone, feel free to chime in also, either on- or off-list. Or, please pass the word. We are halfway between New York City and Washington, half an hour from Philadelphia and an hour from Baltimore and within 45 minutes of several major universities and colleges. We are within an hour a half of a small ski area, and two hours away from beautiful beaches on the Delware and New Jersey coasts, and we are surrounded by beautiful hiking and biking opportunities. We are also a member of MAC, the Mid-Atlantic Cohousing association.
