I should have added that I don't give a donation to a cohousing group that's 
trying to sell me something, only to the ones who are giving me the opportunity 
to learn more about communities in general.  For instance I'll be staying at 
Pathways this weekend (donation) but visiting a community in the making (no 
donation--they're trying to sell me on joining).  I'll visit but not tour 3 
other communities (small donation).

I have friends who think giving money is tacky and so give labor instead.  I 
have no problem with that, either.
