Hello Cohousers and other lurkers like Me...lol I have been interested and involved in the cohousing movement since 1996 although I have not managed to experience it yet. A thread about Sociocracy was introduced to this list in 2002 and has been leading me to a new career. Some cohousing groups have adopted Sociocracy as their governance structure because it values inclusiveness, accountability, transparency and productivity. see www.champlainvalleycohousing.org A group of us have been learning about Sociocracy in a Yahoo group for 4 years. Interest has been building but until recently there was no way to become a "certified" facilitator in North America. There are now teleconference classes being offered by John Buck through his website at www.governancealive.com I am currently in the advanced class and expect to be certified to help interested groups implement Sociocracy in the New Year. Sociocracy in practice feels like an evolutionary step forward from democracy. I recommend that others consider consulting in Sociocracy as a career. John Buck and his group have been doing a great job putting together materials and examples that are relevant to North American experience with lots of excellent practice sessions to help us internalize what we are learning. It is an exciting time. Maggie Dutton, www.sociocracyInaction.ca Calgary, Alberta Canada.
