At RoseWind Cohousing, Port Townsend WA, we use the Moosewood Cooks for a
Crowd book as a major stand by. With just one team-cooked meal a week (other
gatherings, including a weekly one, are potlucks) meals sometimes are
special menus -- we've had an Arab meal, food from India, Italy, a recent
Channukah meal, and even a "high school cafeteria" theme that was very
funny, complete with servers in 50s garb, and a blackboard listing pep
rallies etc. Of course the menu was a propos.
Typical "regular" meals include one or more salads (maybe green salad, plus
a shredded carrot/beet, for example), soups (lots of fresh produce here) and
corn bread, home made bread, fruit (fresh, or cobbler) or sweets for
dessert.
We also accomodate a number of members with special dietary needs, so zero
peanut products or oil, alternatives for gluten-free (no wheat etc) and
lactose-free (no milk), and vegetarians. Our posted menu has categories to
fill in, to help planners remember to offer options.
